Lines Say It All

Lines say it all

A line says it all in a child’s drawing. As the child draws intuitively, each and every step on a staircase and, every eyelash and every blade of grass is defined as clearly as possible.

Blind contour drawings are the best warm ups of life drawing. The line awakens the mind to the creative venture of drawing. The line takes you to the places you want to go to.

A small still life, a large landscape and abstractions done in line drawings can depict mass, volume, outline as well as mood.

Likeness in a portrait is defined by lines. Strangely enough we do not see lines across the face to divide, say, the hair from the face or the chin from the neck. Thus as often as features are shown by the line, strangely enough it is also done by the absence of line.

In working fast like drawing people on the move, a dancer in action, a child at play, a line is my best friend. Within minutes the picture becomes clear.
